Our Story
DRYmedic Restoration of Charleston was founded by David Sims, who brought a 25-year career of solving complex technical problems to an industry where precision, process, and honesty matter most โ property restoration. When your home floods at 2am, you don't just need trucks and pumps. You need someone who shows up fast, measures instead of guesses, documents everything for your insurance company, and tells you the truth about what needs to happen.
We chose the DRYmedic name because the national network behind it shares that standard: IICRC-certified training, professional-grade drying science, and a process built around treating every property loss like a patient โ assess, stabilize, treat, restore. But make no mistake about who you're hiring: this location is independently owned and operated, based right here on James Island. When you call, you're calling a Charleston business run by people who live in the same flood maps, evacuate on the same routes, and sweat the same hurricane forecasts you do.
Why Charleston Needs a Different Kind of Restoration Company
The Lowcountry is one of the most demanding restoration environments in the country. We deal with things a company in Kansas never thinks about:
- Hurricane season โ six months a year of tropical threat, with surge, wind-driven rain, and post-storm claims surges.
- King tides and tidal flooding โ saltwater in streets and ground floors on a calendar, not just in storms.
- Punishing humidity โ 70%+ ambient humidity means amateur drying fails here, and mold moves faster than almost anywhere else.
- Raised and historic construction โ crawl spaces, pier-and-beam foundations, plaster walls, and heart-pine floors that demand careful, experienced work.
Everything about how we operate โ the equipment we stock, the drying targets we set, the way we monitor crawl spaces โ is tuned for these conditions.
What We Promise on Every Job
- A real person answers, 24/7/365. Emergencies don't keep business hours, and neither do we.
- We measure, we don't guess. Moisture readings, thermal imaging, and daily monitoring โ and we show you the numbers.
- Your insurance claim is our job too. Full documentation, direct communication with your adjuster, direct billing where possible.
- Honest scoping. If something can be dried and saved, we dry it and save it. We don't demo what doesn't need demolition.
- Your home is treated like ours. Floor protection, contained work areas, and crews you'd be comfortable having around your family.
Credentials & Standards
- IICRC Certified โ the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification sets the industry's scientific standards for water, fire, and mold work.
- Google Guaranteed โ our background check, license, and insurance were independently verified through Google's screening process, not self-reported. What this means โ
- Licensed & insured in South Carolina.
- Part of the national DRYmedic Restoration network โ shared training, large-loss support, and brand standards, independently owned locally.
